Wow, where to even start. The last few days have been very enlightening.

Background: Jan 5th, a group of Republicans tried to form the Montana Main Street Republican Partnership PAC - they filed a C-2. Senator Bruggerman was a key player. When the group learned that they could not accept funds from the Main Street Advocacy Fund (a Wa DC org) as they got corporate funding (think Soros, NEA and Goldman Sachs), they pulled the C-2 and requested it be destroyed. Opps - public record - didn't happen.

There have been radio ads and slick mailers put out in at least 6 Montana races. The ads are very well done and try hard to not advocate voting for any candidate. They say things like "Montana needs more gov't accountability and lower taxes" Contact candidate XXX at "ph number" for more information.

They have a partial disclaimer of Note to Voters This advertisement is not paid for or authorized by any candidate. It is paid for my Main Street Advocacy Fund Po Box 1630 Helena, MT 59624" It is lacking Treasurer and party affliation, in my opinion.

The slick mailer was designed by Ted Dick - political director of SEIU Montana. He visited Political Practices with a "draft flier" on 4/29 and said they were trying to avoid "express advocacy".

The draft mailer was advocating Sandy Welch in HD3. He was advised to contact an attorney. Mr. Dick returned on 5/4 with a revised draft - he was informed by Political Practices that it looked better, but to still get with an attorney.

So now we have a documented connection between SEIU and Main Street Advocacy - a supposed Republican organization. And they are targeting Republicans. I have heard that this same org was active inColorado in 2008. I do not know how effective they were.

It appears that revision of the flier was customised for several races and mailed out early last week. On 5/20 the Commissioner of Political Practices again met with Mr. Dick and informed him that OPP had recived several complaints regarding the fliers - the flier is an exact word for word copy of a radio ad that ran 5/11 thru 5/14 in the Helena area and who knows where else.

The cost of the radio ad targeting my race was over $2000. He was informed of the disclaimer requirements and it was verified that an incorporated national organization (Main ST. Advocacy Fund) was paying for the ads. Mr/ Dick was informed that there may be the potential for penalties. (Mike says - why would that org care about $25k in penalties when they get 6 or more people elected that are sympathetic to thier cause?) There was a conference call at 3pm on the 21st with the MSA lawyer and OPP - I do not know the outcome - yet.

This is ALL 100% documented. I have copies of everything. Main Street Advocacy is a spin off of Main Street Republican Partnership - Susan Collins, Olympia Snowe and other "less conservative" prominent Republicans are members. Some might find this link educational:

In my district, the radio ads ran 5/11 to 5/14 - just when the absentee ballots dropped - I did not learn of it for a few days afterwards as I get no radio here in the boonies. I have copies of the radio station broadcast logs as to when the ads played and the cost, They are scheduled to start back up on June 1 and run thru 10am on June 8. The radio station has agreed to not run the ads until they get the OK from OPP. That helps me but not the other races this is happening in.

-if you win the primary(God forbid this) then you will be facing 1 Democrat and 1 Libertarian in the general election

-before that you are being targeted by constitutional minded folks who are sick of your lack of representation of us, hence our support for Mark French who is the soundest candidate according to the constitution in Montana's US Congress race.

-we also understand that the Montana State GOP is already involved in shoving you down the people of Montana's throats via contribution phone calls and through emails from Chairman Deschamps where you are offered as the only choice for Montana in the primary, sounds like there should be some kind of legal action taken against these abuses (this is very familiar to McCain being shoved down our throats by the RNC and MT State GOP when Ron Paul was the best presidential candidate in 08)

-furthering your Politician style sellout of the people we have come to know that you have ties to certain lobbying firms so we know how you will continue to vote and that will be: pro international police action, pro big brother, pro invasion of privacy, pro biometrics, pro big government, pro drug prohibition, pro United Nations.. all being against the constitution which is fundamentally anti American

-if you have any ounce of dignity left you will withdraw, repent of your Politician activities over the years and support/endorse a Statesman

Melinda Gopher is seeking the State of Montana's sole Congressional seat in the U.S. House of Representatives.

"Melinda Gopher, 44, an Ojibwe / Blackfeet from Missoula, Montana is seeking the State of Montana's sole Congressional seat in the U.S. House of Representatives. While many glass ceilings have been shattered; a Native American woman has yet to be elected to the U.S. Congress.

Gopher's running as a progressive Democrat and focusing her campaign on jobs. The current recession has hit Montana's communities hard, even though the state unemployment rate is not as critical as the overall national rate of 10%; it is deceiving. Montana does not count long term unemployed workers who have given up.

Melinda is a civil rights activist, and blogger. She is a Paralegal but decided to run for the U.S. House believing she can make a difference in the nation's capitol. Melinda Gopher believes the nation does not have to choose between cap and trade and carbon taxation as revenue raising; rather, clean energy must be pursued to create jobs no matter what.

Melinda supports the Employee Free Choice Act as a means for keeping American labor strong. She believes corporations have gone unchecked, and have had a negative impact in DC. This has led to the loss of jobs and outsourcing of jobs to artificially inflate corporate profit margins. Gopher believes exploiting labor forces in foreign countries is detrimental to the world economy in the long term. Loss of workers' rights has created unfair trade policies between the U.S., China, India to point to a few examples. Corporate exploitation and economic coercion do not create win/win partnerships: something Gopher wants to create.

Gopher supports overhauling the nation's ailing housing sector. She believes the low-income are mired in HUD programs of the past. Not enough of the nation's low and middle income people are building personal wealth equity--resulting in lost economic power and a declining tax base. She believes there must be revolutionary changes in the national housing policy that will reverse the housing crisis. She would enact laws ending financial apartheid in America, and ban policies mired in the FHA redlining legacy. She vows to "pick up where Bobby Kennedy left off" in ending American poverty.

Melinda is the spouse of a combat disabled veteran and cares about veteran issues. She believes the VA ratings system is broken, she currently supports the efforts of national veterans groups to work with Montana Senator Jon Tester to fix the system so that it works for veterans.

Melinda Gopher is a long time civil rights, tribal sovereignty, and environmental activist. She believes HUD has been a weak institutional home for civil rights and supports the creation of a cabinet level agency for civil rights. She believes state-by-state laws on gay marriage are the wrong approach and unjust. She believes the federal government must beef up the 1964 Civil Rights Act and Amendments to include sweeping protections for gays, lesbians, transsexuals and bisexuals.

Melinda Gopher points out, "the black codes are a disgraceful part of America's past. The state-by-state approach are the black codes for the LGBT community, why are we tolerating this inequality?" She believes to ensure an end to discrimination against gays and to provide for their full civil rights--will require federal intervention as was done in the 1960s civil rights movement.

Melinda Gopher has been a civil rights practitioner since her early 20s. She was the only Native American panelist in the 1994 National Fair Housing Summit and worked to enact fair housing protections in Montana. Melinda Gopher has worked in the public and private sector on fair housing.

She believes the nation needs another Fair Housing Summit to address the subprime crisis. She points out, "not enough is being done to ensure Americans keep their homes, and participate in the American dream of homeownership."

Melinda Gopher knows her candidacy is improbable; she believes her voice is needed to address the lack of effective Native American leadership in the state Democratic party. She believes the Native Americans advancing in the political party pipeline in the state are tokens and are placed in positions where they are politically neutered.

She is a vocal critic of Senator Max Baucus's mishandling of state tribal issues, his failure to address long term and chronic unemployment in the state's seven Indian reservations and urban areas. She has criticized the Senator over taking single payer off the table in health care reform. Melinda Gopher is likely to challenge Baucus in 2014 when he comes up for re-election."
